I could not miss the most important event that regards men’s fashion on an international level. I went to Florence to visit the pavilions of PittiUomo, the magnificent event that as always enthrals and amazes. A colourful and unconventional universe where: companies, fashion designers, journalists, photographers, models, influencers and onlookers gather to consecrate one of the leading sectors of the world industrial economy.

A river of people crossed the gates of Fortezza da Basso to find out what the trends of the autumn / winter 2020/21 season will be, which will accompany men during their future steps. In this article I want to reveal the previews of some well-known Italian brands.
After the debut at PittiImmagineUomo last June, A|X ARMANI EXCHANGE surprises with the A|X Park. A dynamic space where imagination, pop art and colour mix with the strong 90s inspiration. After crossing a maze of LEDs, visitors explore the brand’s diverse world and access arcade video games. In line with the brand’s DNA, A|X Armani Exchange becomes street scenery and 90 ‘vibes are the strongest inspirations of the collection, present in all over prints and in graphics with the logo tape or pattern on outerwear and clothes. Baggy volumes with sporty details in white, black, blue and orange of men’s trousers, jackets and hoodies.
Also in the collection is the “Back in the eyes” series: hooded sweatshirts, bomber jackets and t-shirts inspired by the advertising campaigns of the 90s that helped create the visual language of A|X. Finally, the Pitti special capsule for men and women is presented exclusively in red, black and blue technical fabric with fluorescent lime details and logo patch.
GAS JEANS pushes the accelerator on creativity and style, connecting denim to the world of motor-racing, which has always been in its DNA, and presents the INDIGO RACING CLUB project at the 97th edition of PittiImmagine, the brand’s new capsule collection that has made world famous the Italian denim.
INDIGO RACING CLUB develops in an alchemical way, mixing the visual suggestion of the world of motorcycles in its contemporary declination, with the most lived and material one of the workshop. Shiny car bodies, logos and stickers intertwine with treated, marked surfaces, sometimes even dented by washings and misdyed effects. All over graphics and heat taping are grafted, tracing lines as if they were borders, connecting roads. The authenticity of denim meets mechanical automation and speed.
Misdyed and dirty finishes, as if they were oil and grease stains, contaminate the t-shirts and down jackets with an oversize fit and super puffy padding. Ergonomic cuts and protections borrowed from motorcycle circuits become stylish details. Paint marks define the shoulders of the faux leather jackets, they become rubberized prints in relief on the t-shirts, they form contrasting inserts on the sweatshirts.
A pattern inspired by the racing world in a manga key is the tribute to the long partnership between GAS and Honda, the world’s first motorcycle manufacturer. On shirts it is used all over or as an insert, to play down the most rigorous models. Return to the printed interventions of the sweatshirts and the five pockets in white bull. It appears, exploded in the many graphic elements that compose it, in the stickers, patches and maxi prints that characterize the entire proposal.
Street accents permeate the entire collection and are accentuated by the bold colour chart and strong contrasts. Black, white and grey mélange light up with flash shades that recreate the energy of motorcycle racing.
In the denim world, the slim fit features leather-effect coatings and eco-leather inserts; the regular model is enriched with heat-taped side bands; the loose fit proposal is made of fine selvedge denim and crossed by contrasting tape details.
A vital and colourful space, interpreted with a large awning, hosts games, extraordinary rotating objects and unexpected characters wearing the GAS collections.
“Welcome to the magic GAS world” incites a voice that invites visitors to enter the surprising blue box, the favourite colour of the brand. The suggestions chase each other in an interactive atmosphere. Guests are immersed in a dreamlike world: “The Double Rainbow GAS Tour” which does not stop at the borders of the Fortezza da Basso in Florence, but represents the first stage of a travelling journey across Europe and beyond.
PIQUADRO. The 97th edition of PittiImmagineUomo scheduled in Florence from 7 to 10 January 2020 sees Piquadro take the field with conviction in favour of the environment. After the realization, in the last seasons, of the first products with the use of eco-friendly materials and strong of the in-depth analysis work on the environmental impact of the activities reported in the Group’s sustainability report, Piquadro presents its first collection made with recycledmaterials, the GREEN COLLECTION PQ-BIOS.
The backpacks, one-shoulder bags and pouches of the PQ-BIOS line are the result of careful research aimed at creating products with reduced environmental impact as part of a serious sustainability project. The goal is fully achieved thanks to the use of ECONYL®, a regenerated nylon thread that is obtained from the transformation of waste such as fishing nets and textile fibers.
ECONYL® production is a process that begins with the RECOVERY of waste such as fishing nets, fabric scraps, used carpet and industrial plastic from landfills and oceans around the world. The waste thus collected passes to the REGENERATION, a phase in which the nylon is cleaned and purified until it returns to its initial characteristics, that is, of the nylon coming from a virgin source. Then then it is followed by its TRANSFORMATION, ECONYL® regenerated nylon is transformed into a yarn ready for use in industrial production. At this point we RE-INVENT a new product that uses regenerated nylon. So the cycle closes but it can start and go on indefinitely because, thanks to ECONYL® technology, nylon can be recycled indefinitely without losing any of its intrinsic qualities.
In addition to ECONYL® regenerated nylon, other recycled materials are used in the GREEN COLLECTION PQ-BIOS for internal linings and tapes, all 100% RPET, standard Global Recycled certified recycled plastic. Each Piquadro product in the PQ-BIOS collection is provided with a tag bearing the PQ-Recycled Index, an index designed by Piquadro to attest the relationship between the weight of the recycled material used in that product and the total weight of the material used to make it. The packaging and merchandising of the product are also made of recyclable materials: first of all the paper that has FSC (Forest Stewardship Council®) certification attesting to its origin from forests or sources managed in a responsible manner; then the ecological soy-based inks and finally the recycled cotton for the rope of the bag handles.
The PQ-BIOS collection is therefore to all intents and purposes a circular economy project in which Piquadro recovers and reuses waste for the creation of a line of travel accessories that adds a value of environmental sustainability to all the essential characteristics of Piquadro products: an original and recognizable design, intelligent, current functions and excellent manufacturing.
“Being a sustainable company means making choices that can lower the social and environmental impact of its activities” says Marco Palmieri, CEO of the Piquadro Group. “Sustainability implies respect for the health of workers and consumers as well as for human and environmental rights and our commitment in this regard is attested by the Sustainability Report that Piquadro has already drawn up for two years. We believe that today it is our responsibility to be promoters of sustainable innovation and therefore of a cultural change that, in harmony with profit, places respect for the environment and social progress first in order to guarantee a future for future generations , a commitment that starts from product design and involves individual attitude “.
